The Guy Who Revolutionized Punjabi Cricket Commentary

India loves its cricket but there is something else that binds this country, which is the love for distinct and pure culture.

Now then, the people of Punjab do respect south Indians but sure a dosa isn’t going to fill their belly to its satisfaction!

If there are three defining things about a certain culture, they are undoubtedly the language, food and the local weather.

Sports commentator Sunil Taneja, erstwhile known for his live inputs on kabaddi and hockey, has really fostered a community of love and relatability through the Punjabi language on JioCinema, which has in the last two years expanded its cricket broadcast to 12 Indian languages.

In the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League, Bhojpuri and Punjabi commentary really gained popularity as Internet users vouched for both the comic timing and the expert knowledge offered by the commentators of these two language feeds.

This year, Haryanvi commentary was also added to the IPL broadcast, wherein Indian cricket great Virender Sehwag has been offering his inputs during live matches.

Moreover, innovations such as a feed dedicated to commentary offered by stand-up comics and camera angles focused on star players during the live broadcast have made the experience much more fun and light-hearted.

And do I have to mention how many runs have been scored in the IPL this year? Not sure if that is something the bowlers would love but if you like watching huge sixes and boundaries, the 250+ mark has been breached on more than eight occasions already in 2024, something that was only seen once in the last 16 editions of IPL.

It’s a real feast out there, just letting you know so you can gorge your eyes (and ears) on it too!
